Chaffee Citizens for Sustainability Update
Hello Friends, CCFS has scheduled a meeting to discuss the status of the Nestle Waters project. The date is Wednesday September 16, 7pm at the Salida Community Center (3rd & G St.) At this meeting we will present some background, talk about the current standing of the permit application, discuss the permit resolution, and explore some of the options that the public has to resist the project. If you can be present we encourage and invite your participation.
We have just learned that the County Commissioners have scheduled a Special Meeting on Wednesday September 23, 10am at the County Courthouse. This meeting will be to consider the resolutions for the Nestle Waters 1041 Permit Application and the Special Land Use Permit.
We would also like to take a moment in this letter to talk about membership in CCFS. Up to this point, we have had a policy of free memberships for all interested persons. While we have been pleased to be able to do that, the reality is that we continue to incur ongoing expenses . In that light, we are formalizing our membership to include modest dues. This will let us continue to do the work we have been doing AND to do the serious work that lies ahead.
We sincerely thank all of you for your past and future support. Paid memberships will officially begin on January 1, 2010 and run annually. If you can begin that paid membership NOW, that would really help us out.
You may do this online by clicking here. If you would like a paper application you can obtain one online by clicking here. Applications and donations can be sent to CCFS, P.O. Box 426, Salida, CO 81201.
One of our members spent a number of years living in the San Luis Valley right next door to the Salazar family and got to know them well. Our member is very passionate about water and very opposed to Nestlé’s project. With that in mind, she took the initiative to send a heart-felt letter to Ken Salazar and John Salazar.
This letter expresses many of the deep concerns about the Nestle project and is attached for all to read. If any of you have any possible connections that might help spread the word, please give it a try. If desired, we are glad to help you with information and materials. It is very important that the issues of Nestle and Water receive broad attention both locally and Statewide (and nationally to the extent possible).
Lastly, we have updated our website www.CCFSustainability.org and encourage you to visit and discover some of the new information.
Best wishes to all from your friends at CCFS
