BV Cruiser Club Hosts a Wild Ride

Despite the cool winds and a threatening collection of clouds culminating to create a great reason to avoid the event, the BV Cruiser Club’s inaugural ride came off without a hitch. Roughly forty riders of all ages, sizes, bicycle styles, and skill levels met at McPhelemy Park in Buena Vista early Sunday evening.
The Cruiser Club’s founders, Natalie and Jason Moore, who recently moved from Boulder, anticipated a good crowd, showing up early with decorative flowers, pipe cleaners, stickers and streamers at the ready. The friendly and enthusiastic bicyclists seized on the opportunity to make their rides a tad more stylish.
Some folks brought their own pizzazz along. Riders affixed decorative, diamond-studded sheep-skulls to their handle bars and sported pleather jackets with zip-off sleeves. Others wore water-proof boots, kitchen aprons and helmets sprouting antennae. The motley ensemble made for a congenial and respectfully loud presence about town.
While at times, the club’s size and energy felt ready to launch from sociable, neighborhood bike ride into something more like a Critical Mass (large groups of bikers that ride through city streets to raise awareness), it never did. In fact, the Cruisers were quite capable of maintaining fidelity to the event’s original aim: no politics, just fun.
After jaunting about some neighborhoods on the west side of town, the cyclists made their way down Main Street, across Railroad Avenue and down into South Main where a few hardy souls stopped at the new Eddyline Brewery for a quick draught.
Afterwards, they returned en masse to McPhelemy Park where Natalie and Jason passed out many of the fifty “BV Cruiser Club” shirts they ordered for the kickoff. Riders enjoyed the camaraderie of a common cause based on nothing more than the joy of a bicycle’s simplicity and shared laughs over a barbeque.
For those who missed the two to three mile ride, there are plenty of opportunities to come. The club will host nine more events between the coming ride on Thursday, June 4, and the season finale ride on Thursday, September 3. All rides begin, rain or shine, at McPhelemy Park at 6 pm.

Approximately 40 riders made their way around the streets of BV on the club's inaugural ride.

Yeah! Thanks for the great ride. It was great to see everyone out on their bikes, having fun, connecting with old friends and making new friends. See you on June 4th.
Thanks again,
Natalie Moore
